Arcadia’s first program started in 2011, where eating begins: on the farm, introducing children to food at its source. Nearly 10,000 children have participated in Arcadia Field Trips. More than 1,000 children have experienced our immersive farm camp since 2011, with more than 20% on full, needs-based scholarships funded by our donors -- because good food is for everyone, regardless of income. In 2019 we launched the Live, Eat, Grow program which reaches into schools and communities near the farm with school and community center garden support, a hyper-local cafeteria program, and, during the pandemic, free fruit and vegetable distribution in communities of need in southeast Fairfax County. Live, Eat, Grow is also sourcing food from community gardeners to distribute to those in need during this health crisis, supporting hyperlocal agriculture and putting excess veg to its best use.
